3 Problem and Purpose Statements

Problem: Some toy companies manufacture consumer products that contain toxic chemicals.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was reduce the amount of caustic material contained in the merchandise.

Problem: Production is the main concern for industrial machining, rather than energy efficiency and sustainability.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop a product that can recycle power while still maintaining a normal production.

Problem: Engines create energy but also waste it in the form of friction and heat.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to capture and repurpose the lost energy

    Problem: Fisher-Price manufactures consumer products that are not environmentally friendly.

    Purpose: The purpose of this study was to produce more sustainable merchandise.



    Problem: The loss of mechanical energy that Maytag dryers produce is wasted.

    Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop a product that can gather the unused energy, while still maintaining a normal production.



    Problem: The top portion of a toilet seat gathers pee in the men’s restroom.

    Purpose: The purpose of this study was to create a diversion that can reduce the amount of topside urination.
